Al Qaeda Says 7 Suicide Bombers Struck Iraqi Prison
Al Qaeda Says 7 Suicide Bombers Struck Iraqi Prison

Sun Apr 3, 3:20 PM ET World - Reuters

DUBAI (Reuters) - Al Qaeda's wing in Iraq said on Sunday seven suicide bombers spearheaded its brazen overnight raid on Abu Ghraib prison that wounded 44 U.S. soldiers, according to an Internet statement.

In a statement on Saturday's raid on the notorious facility outside Baghdad, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's group said its fighters killed "dozens of Americans," destroyed more than 15 vehicles and shot down an Apache helicopter.

It said 57 fighters attacked watchtowers from four sides and "silenced them" as seven suicide bombers detonated vehicles laden with explosives around the facility.

This seems to have been a huge attack. 44 wounded? Nobody killed on our side? That seems unlikely. There also appears to be essentially no information coming out of the US forces about this, other than yesterday's report of 20 injured soldiers.

3. It seems VERY unlikely
and it also seems they're not exactly forthcoming with any news on this, so you KNOW it's bad. The "killed dozens of Americans" sounds a lot more likely to me in an attack like this. When will we hear the truth? Facism sucks.

14. ABC had a story in the middle of the night
that said "hurt" in the headline - said 44 "casualties" in the story - but no one died?

I don't think the truth is coming near you in the media anytime soon.

4. And it's one, two, three, What are we fightin' for
Edited on Sun Apr-03-05 06:30 PM by Say_What
Don't ask me I don't give a f*ck.
Next stop is lethal Iraq!

And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why,
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

Well, come on mothers around the block,
Pack your boys off to lethal Iraq.
Come on fathers, don't hesitate,
Send 'em off before it's too late.
Be the first one on your block
To have your boy come home in a box.

And it's one, two, three
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me I don't give a f*ck.
Next stop is lethal Iraq!
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why,
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

6. This reminds me of the mess tent bombing around Christmas
It took days for the story (or what was decided would be the story) to really come out. The death count started small, then rose to the mid 20's if I recall correctly. First it was mortars, then suicide bombers, then car bombs.

I don't expect we will get even the semblance of a reasonable story until mid-week or so, if we ever get one at all.

It has been weeks since we have heard anything about the investigation into the Italian journalist shooting. Sometimes they just let stuff slip down the memory hole.

before they acknowledged the heavy toll. I went through about 50 photos today and saw..... the pope with every president in the last 20 years. Now please tell me WTF does that have to do with the Iraq Photo Gallery?!? They are hiding the dead for sure!

24. Last thing on the shooting
was that the road they were on was not the ordinary road to the airport, but a secured road that connects the Green Zone to the airport and which is reserved for VIPs. And, US authorities have barred the Italian investigators from examining the vehicle...

8. Video coming soon....
but, not to a tv near you. From above article;
<"Columns of smoke were seen rising from the crusaders' bases," the statement said. "This battle is part of a series of raids ... which began yesterday across the land of Mesopotamia."
The group said it would provide a film of the attack soon.
Besides the 44 U.S. troops wounded, 12 detainees were hurt, one seriously. The U.S. military said at least one insurgent was killed.>

This could be it.

15. the us military report is nonsense
the insurgents claim that there were at least 7 suicide bombers ("martyrs") in the attack.

What is most stunning is that this is baghdad - supposedly secure, this is abu ghaib - supposedly well protected, and this was it seems a huge coordinated well planned surprise attack. This spells serious trouble for the 'pacification' program.

For those of us old enough to remember 'nam, jesus this is so familiar. How many more Iraqi and American children are we going to slaughter before we wise up once again?

Anything coming from that group is propaganda. Since the figment has been around for a while, both sides are using the tool.

13. This is like a Chuck Norris film with the roles reversed
The bad guys are the good guys, or did the good guys only think they were good but really were bad all along? In any case the US is providing propaganda opportunities for Al Qaeda, and damned if they aren't seizing them to advance their agenda. The spectacle of Al Qaeda "liberating" Abu Ghraib may be to Bush what the Tet Offensive was to LBJ: the beginning of the end. All that's needed now is a major push by native Iraqi insurgents, and with the new parliament in a stalemate that may not be far off.

Will Bush now claim that things are the best they've been, since this incident is among the worst and it just shows how desperate our enemies are? Or is he too busy educating the American public about the merits of reforming Social Security in his image?

That smell in the air isn't the result of his Clear Skies Initiative. It's his political capital burning, about the only combustible that will never contribute to global warming.

18. How would the insurgents have any idea
how many Americans were killed in the attack?

The suicide bombers are the ones who got the closest to our forces, and they probably aren't sending back reports.

They didn't occupy any ground or breach any walls, so they wouldn't see any bodies.

All they saw were big explosions, and you can't guess deaths by that.

19. that isn't what I meant
The US military reported one insurgent death when it seems that there something like seven suicide bombers. The insurgents don't know how many of our troops they killed, but they certainly might know how many bombers they sent in. Unlike the insurgents, presumably we are in control of the ground now that the fight is over, so we should be able to make an assesment, right? Where is it?

My point is and was that we seem to have little or no information about this stunning attack coming out of our military. The MSM, shockingly, is on the pope 24/7 and can't pay attention to anything as trivial as a huge assault on our torture center in baghdad. This after being on TS 24/7 presenting bullshit and actual established facts as if they were equivalent.

Instead our only updates appear to be coming from al qaeda, which is even more embarassing. Maybe we have to start tuning into radio free america on our short wave radios in secret to get some real news?

22. It is a sad say when you trust the 'enemies' numbers....
more than you trust your own government's numbers. At first news organizations were saying 18 US soldier's were killed and now there are none. Sadly people do not even question this or think it is strange. My husband, who is also a democrat, says that the first reports were just mistakes. This is a man who has been thoroughly educated on the mass media shut out of any REAL news. Hubby can't help but wonder how they would even begin to hide the 18 dead bodies. Well all outside news sources have been thrown out of Iraq so it is not as if they have to have a big cover up, now is it?
