Loud explosion heard near Beirut
From correspondents in Beirut
April 02, 2005 (at least in Australia)

A LOUD explosion was heard in Metn, a Christian region east of the Lebanese capital, today after three bomb attacks on Christian neighbourhoods in recent weeks, residents said.

The blast happened at the Rizk shopping centre in the tourist village of Brumanna, 20km east of Beirut, the private LBCI television channel reported.

2. Well while so many were cheering on Syrias withdrawal
from here at DU and just about everywhere else... a few of us kept mentioning the militias.

I have as much distaste for the Syrian government as anyone else but those who didn't recognize that Syrias brutality was keeping the still heavily armed militias under some check.

You see its not that Syria should withdraw in as much as the militias should disarm so Syria can withdraw under some hope of no civil war breaking out in the near future.

I'm sure the US and our allies would jump right into Lebanon to "stabilize" the situation if that were to happen though.

3. Yes, and . .
when we withdrew from Lebanon after the bombing of the Marine barracks there, no one was officially displeased that the Syrians came in to "stabilize" the situation. But, now, since Syria has been demonized as a junior member of the Bush "Axis of Evil" we suddenly care a lot. Humph.

Also, I was extremely disappointed by our "cheap" foray into Afghanistan. I thought at least we would try to disarm the warlord militia's there, but we made little effort to do so. I wasn't against our effort there, unlike my feeling about Iraq, but I was sadly disappointed that we did not do more to really benefit the people of Afghanistan.

4. Looks like Hezbollah and US/Israel
agree on one thing and one thing only. They are all very willing to refight the civil war.
