Officer shocked by Taser dart fired into suspect he was trying to handcuff
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/front/3109187

A Houston police officer got a lesson in electrical conductivity Tuesday night when he was shocked by a Taser dart fired into a suspect he was trying to handcuff.

The officer, whose identity was not released, was checked out at a local hospital after being jolted by the 50,000-volt charge about 8:15 p.m.

"He was just trying to handcuff the guy," Houston Police Department Officer Thomas Nixon said. "The electricity leapt from the suspect, right into the officer's arms."

2. Good. I hope it hurt . . . .
Next he will apply for early retirement due to lasting effects of this "harmless" weapon.

4. Hmmm... is everybody else who gets tasered "checked out"...
at a local hospital? Interesting to note how the term "50,000-volt charge" gets used in an article as soon as it affects someone who's presumed innocent.

6. If the officer was hospitalized, then what about the guy who was actually
shot by *four* darts and also "jolted"?

10. most agencies....
require that officers be shocked with a taser before they are allowed to carry them as part of their training. I've taken hundreds of such hits, and am just fine.

/twitch, twitch....

11. while it is poetic in a sense...
there is no mention that this guy was doing anything other than his job. If his partner or whoever had a itchy trigger finger on the taser gun then I don't think his police buddy should pay by association.

14. you must realize the implication... he was simultaneously shocking the guy
and handcuffing him... that means he must have been administering continuous electrocution. can you imagine what that feels like?
