Marines Survive Frightful Explosion In Iraq

NEAR FALLUJAH, Iraq - A few Marines from Dragon Platoon survived an improvised explosive device while moving an abandoned vehicle from an important main supply route from Fallujah to Baghdad.
After finding the suspicious vehicle, the Marines eventually used an armored Humvee to push the car off the side of the road.

As Marines were securing the area, the vehicle suddenly exploded while a CNN crew was videotaping.

1. WOW!
Made-for-TV IED!

Amazing pictures. First time I've seen something that's probably happened 1000s of times in dipsh*t's totally unnecessary war.

I think the Iraqis are serious about this Yankee go home thing

they will NEVER accept the US there

How can the big shots say this is NOT like Vietnam - or do they need 58,000 dead young Americans first??

All this for their bloody oil addiction . . .

(sigh)

3. And I wonder how many in the CNN crew wet their pants.
Not from fear, from delight at catching something "blowing up" on film.

Spectacular photos, just goes to show how dangerous it is over there, and what those who are caught by IED's go through when they're maimed, crippled, injured, or killed.

Thanks, george. :eyes:

4. Can someone answer a question I have?
I am, of course, extremely glad that apparently no one was seriously hurt. I have a question, though: How could the person who was driving that Humvee have survived the fireball? Wouldn't the inside of the vehicle have become too hot for anyone to live?

FWIW, I have two observations: I looked at all the pictures provided in the link. Looking at the last picture in the sequence which shows the entire Humvee, to my eye it looks very similar to the way it looked in the first picture. Would a vehicle that had just emerged from a fireball look that way? Also, in reading the story in the link I found it to be a bit odd. There's no mention (as far as I noticed) of when this incident occurred. It just says that the Marines were back on patrol "the next day." It's so vague.

6. Possibly Uparmored Humvee
Edited on Fri Mar-25-05 09:20 PM by Best_man23
Also, the force of the blast appears as if it went sideways, away from the Humvee. The uparmored vehicles have helped; however, what would help more is to bring our soldiers, sailors, and Marines home.

7. Something else looks fishy - the Humvee never moved an inch -
forward or backwards, in any of the shots! Shouldn't there be some movement evident?

5. As you know, you go to war with the Army you have.
They're not the Army you might want or wish to have at a later time." "If you think about it, you can have all the armor in the world on a tank and a tank can be blown up."

Moran!
