Hostage in Atlanta courthouse killings gets $70,000 reward

ATLANTA -- The woman who led authorities to suspected courthouse shooter Brian Nichols was given $70,000 Thursday by Gov. Sonny Perdue and officials from other agencies who offered rewards in the case.

The amount Ashley Smith received was $7,500 more than what was publicly offered.

``She's just stacking up the checks,'' Perdue quipped as each agency took a turn at a podium in the state Capitol to present a check to the 26-year-old widowed mother.

Smith was held hostage for seven hours by Nichols at her suburban Atlanta apartment before she convinced the suspect to allow her to leave so she could see her young daughter. Smith then immediately placed the 911 call that led to Nichols' arrest.

3. She needs the money to get her own life together
She has a young child. Her husband was murdered a couple of years ago. She should keep it.

5. I'm not sure why you call it blood money.
Maybe because she prevented more blood from being spilled?

7. This isn't blood money
She deserves every dime, it is possible she saved blood from being spilled.
She should think of her child, this money might make her little girls life a little easier.

8. absolutely!
She deserves every bit of it.

This is not blood money. The money was pledged - and she delivered. Why would anyone question her receiving this money
