Undated--- Elizabeth Edwards is recovering from successful surgery to remove a cancerous lump from her breast.

Edwards, a lawyer and the wife of former Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards, was operated on Monday at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Surgeons removed a large cancerous growth that she had described as the size of a half dollar.

Elizabeth Edwards had the lumpectomy after undergoing four months of chemotherapy at Georgetown University Medical Center to shrink the size of the cancer. An Edwards spokesperson says in early April she will undergo five to six weeks of radiation treatment.

I really admire and love Elizabeth Edwards and her husband, John Edwards. In my heart, I wanted them to be on the Hill, so deservingly.

Thanks for the update. I'm very, very glad to hear she's doing better, but she has so much more to endure. What a brave and most honorable woman, and couple!

The positive, she is undergoing radiation for this, not chemo.

9. That seems like a BIG tumor...

and that is the size AFTER chemo. I am saddened and want to hear the magic words "The lymph nodes were all clear". We haven't heard those words - which suggests to me she has a real fight on her hands. If anyone can prevail - it is Elizabeth.

She is one terrific lady.
