TV anchor found dead on street in Mosul
---------------------------
By PATRICK QUINN
Associated Press
2/27/2005
---------------------------
BAGHDAD, Iraq - The body of an anchorwoman for a U.S.-funded state television station - a mother of four who had been kidnapped last week - was found Saturday dumped on a street in the northern city of Mosul.

The body of Raiedah Mohammed Wageh Wazan, the 35-year-old news presenter for the U.S.-funded Nineveh TV, was found six days after she was kidnapped by masked gunmen, according to her husband, who said she had been shot four times in the head.

"This is a criminal act. She was an innocent woman who did not hurt anybody in all her life. I asked her several times to quit for the sake of her safety, but she refused," said Salim Saad-Allah, the husband.

The mother of three boys and a girl had been threatened with death several times by insurgents who demanded that she quit her job, Saad-Allah said.

2. Is the head dead yet?
This reminded me of the song "Dirty Laundry" by Don Henley for some reason.

I won't repeat what Henley called female TV anchors out of respect for the dead. "Get the widow(er) on the set..."

It's a damn shame. But the people at my church will tell you that this is just an isolated incident and that the media won't tell you how well things are going in 99 percent of the country.

They probably have not heard the words US collaborators either I would bet.

Iraqi police cover the body of a woman who was found headless west of Baghdad. A half-brother of ousted president Saddam Hussein (news - web sites), accused of masterminding Iraq (news - web sites)'s deadly insurgency from neighbouring Syria, has been arrested, officials said.(AFP/Ahmad al-Rubaye)

on edit: This seems to be a different woman. She was headless and found west of Baghdad not in Mosul! But Saddam's half brother was captured so I am sure all this ugliness will stop soon. :eyes:

6. You Gotta Be Kiddin, Right?
"99 percent of the country". Church based propaganda Where exactly does this information start from within your Church?

Because if you do know who is spreading this kind of crap, you really need to address it.

I don't let crap like that pass my radar and give two shits if it pisses some people off.

7. A sweet old 72-year-old
lady was reading correspondence from her grandson who is either a U.S. Army or National Guard officer. Those were his words as conveyed in a letter to her.

The interesting question I had (which I didn't ask out of deference to the lady) was how exactly would someone who has been deployed to Iraq for the last year even know what's on the U.S. media about Iraq.

Does he have it so good over there that he is monitoring all U.S. news sources via satellite 24/7?

I guess the way I am "pissing them off" lately is by not attending church very often anymore.

And I am going to shift my giving to places like Habitat for Humanity etc. rather than a captive congregation of Lord Bush's Southern Baptist Convention.

10. I Don't Buy The "Sweet Old Lady" Bit
Not because I don't have "respect", I just happen to know shit over there is not 99% OK. That's garbage, "Sweet Old Lady" or "Decrepit Miserable Old Man".

My bet: her grandson isn't in the line of fire.
