“The only study they have done on these weapons have been done on pigs,” said Nathaniel Khaliq, president of the St. Paul NAACP, speaking about the recent decision by St. Paul Police to issue Taser guns to officers in the public schools. “They tested them on pigs, and when the pigs did not die they were good to go on us,” said Khaliq.

St. Paul Police Spokesman Paul Schnell said the small, bright yellow weapons will be issued to officers in the St. Paul Public Schools as part of training for all officers, according to an article in the Star Tribune. “It should enable us to calm situations down quicker,” said School Police Supervisor Paul Strong in the same article.

But the NAACP finds Taser use in schools outrageous. “Just a short while ago, it was reported in the New York Times that Tasers were responsible for 84 deaths across the country,” said Khaliq. <snip>

1. Interesting article. Sure am glad I homeschool.
Disgusting. :eyes:

I agree with the parent who said it was a ridiculous notion and asked: "can we use tazers to discipline our kids at home?"

2. Yeah. Parents & teachers both join w/ the NAACP on this one.
Evidently they feel that gunning kids down in the hallways runs counter to the spirit of learning they try to foster in the schools.

4. You know, if they
If they had to kick a student in the nuts, they'd have second thoughts.

But give a person a machine and hey, all responsibility is abdicated. Like dropping a bomb from ten thousand feet. Oops!

It's just like the principals of the schools with their "Zero tolerance" rules mercifully bestowed from the school board that take decision making and common sense away from adults in positions of responsibility.

'Policy' is just another form of machine. (see Vonnegut's Player Piano)

5. The non-lethality of tasers is too taken for granted.
