He's the world's nuclear arms watchdog, but why does the Bush administration want him out?

BY TOM HUNDLEY

Chicago Tribune

VIENNA - (KRT) - Mohamed ElBaradei would seem perfect for the job.

An Egyptian diplomat, law professor and weapons expert who knows his way around Manhattan, he is as comfortable negotiating with the mullahs running Tehran's nuclear program as he is courtside at New York Knicks games.

And as director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, he is the world's watch-dog in the high-stakes struggle to curb nuclear proliferation.

"ElBaradei is exactly the kind of person you would want in the role - someone from a developing country who has a Western intellect but a Third World sensitivity," said John Ritch, a former U.S. ambassador to the nuclear agency.

But the Bush administration wants ElBaradei out. It is not clear why.

1. They want someone they can control, simple as that
Someone who will spout their line, someone who will agree with them, someone who will trumpet how evil certain countries are. While turning their backs on the real threats.

3. Everyone keeps getting nukes, under this guy's watch
Pakistan, India, North Korea, etc.

Hell * should want him to stay as his defense contractor buddies can make more $$$ off of more global instability.

Could we have a game of good cop/bad cop, going on here???

7. ElBaradai has no power to prevent countries from acquiring nuclear weapons
He is an expert at inspection and detection, with a working knowledge of where nuclear weapons are known to exist.

He's not an army or a government. He can do nothing more than report what he knows. The US doesn't believe him when he reports his findings, for some reason.

4. It is not clear why???????????
It's very clear, they don't want him around because he has/had the balls to say no to Bushco regarding their lies about Iraq's nukes and WMDs.
