W.House distances from Cheney on Iraq-9/11 link

The White House appeared to distance itself on Wednesday from comments by Vice President Dick Cheney that left the impression he saw a possible link between Saddam Hussein and the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. ''We've said all along that there's no evidence to suggest that that we've seen,'' said White House spokesman Scott McClellan.

Cheney said on Sunday ''It's not surprising'' the public would believe Saddam was involved in the attacks, blamed on the al Qaeda network of Osama bin Laden, who has repeatedly praised the attacks.

''We don't know,'' Cheney said. ''We've learned a couple of things. We learned more and more that there was a relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda that stretched back through most of the decade of the '90s.''

Despite the apparent White House disavowal on Wednesday, President George W. Bush frequently suggested in speeches in the run-up to war that there was a link between Iraq and the al Qaeda network. ---

Don't know about you guys, but there seems to be a lot of guys "off-message" these days? What happened to "Bush's Brain" and his strategy of thinkspeech?

I don't know if the EVER directly said it but they always had him mention Saddam and 9/11 in the same sentence or there abouts. Technically he may never had said it but his minions either did or strongly implied it AND

70% of the American people seem to think he said it.

People don't like being lied to and they don't apprecitate mincing words like that. Many of those who voted for W did so because he was a "straight shooter" even though the informed new he was LYING and/or distorting the truth ("I will lower taxes"-Oh really? Whose? How? Which ones?).

As reactionaries do they REACTED to what Dick said on MTP and this will come back to haunt them.
