McCain Wants Hearings on Pentagon Spy Unit
WASHINGTON — Sen. John McCain wants the Senate Armed Services Committee to hold hearings on allegations that the Defense Department may be bending U.S. laws in order to give Secretary Donald Rumsfeld more authority over clandestine overseas operations.

The Washington Post, which reported the story on Sunday based on military and civilian sources, said the Pentagon has created a new unit, called the Strategic Support Branch (search), as a stepsister to an established unit in the CIA.

Sorry about the Faux link but I thought this was interesting. If McCain is involved it is to act concerned then validate the new secret police.

6. Whatever soul he had..................
he sold it to the Bushs last year. His fawning, slobbering and kowtowing on the campaign trail last year put me off of him forever. After the lies that Bush spread about him in 2000, he should never have forgiven him.
I don't trust McCain as far as I can throw him anymore.

7. McCain is a fraud, he doesn't fight them
he enables them. By pretending to have disagreements then supporting them it lends a deliberative air to the rubber stamp.

9. Do you see anyone else in the Senate asking for hearings?
I don't. He's at least opening the door. Hate him if you want, but he's the only game in town, and at least he's asking for the right thing.

11. It is still an empty gesture,
at very, very best. It is almost certainly just a way pretend the issue was considered and a way to sell it to the public.

McCain is a nothing.

8. I'll believe it when I see it
You seem to suggest that these hearings, if held, will be a whitewash. I agree. McCain is a Bush toadie to the core.
