Clinton's name resonates with Democratic nominees
Mike Glover, Associated Press

INDIANOLA, IOWA -- In sharp contrast to the last presidential election, Bill Clinton's name is resonating on the campaign trail, and the candidates for the 2004 Democratic nomination are working hard to win his support.

Seven rivals lined up to speak at Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin's annual steak fry Saturday at Indianola. Former President Clinton planned an evening address to an expected 5,000 party activists.

Despite controversies that surrounded Clinton's presidency because of his private life, many Democrats view him as a senior statesman who demonstrated the path to gaining the White House.

The campaign's early, and surprise, front-runner, former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, said he would welcome Clinton's help in campaigning should he win the nomination. In 2000, nominee Al Gore and his running mate, current candidate Sen. Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut, rarely mentioned the retiring president. . . .

article mentions Gephardt, Edwards, Graham, and Kerry.

1. Awesome! Magnificent! Stupendous!
This was a great speech today. Check the C-Span schedules and if you have a chance to catch it, it's inspiring. It comes on towards the end of the Steak Fry.

2. Now that almost three years have passed
and Bush has wrecked everything he's touched, the 90s look like paradise in comparison.

4. Were American better off under Clinton or Bush?
There is only one honest answer, and it's not a good one for Bush.

Clinton was phenomenal as usual. To see the President speak served to remind me how far our country has fallen since the appointment of the idiot. I have always been politically active but now I am motivated like never before. We have a great field of candidates and I will gladly support any of them (except lieberman, if he's the nominee I'll support him, but not gladly).

President Clinton has a way of reminding me why I'm a democrat.
