Bush expected to seek near-freeze in spending
But how are we to pay for Iraq and other adventures?

WASHINGTON, Jan 6 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush is expected to propose what amounts to a freeze in spending in programs outside national security in a bid to show he is serious about meeting his goal to reduce the deficit, congressional aides and budget experts said on Thursday.
White House officials said final decisions on Bush's fiscal 2006 budget have yet to be made. They said those decisions would determine the budget numbers.

Congressional aides and budget experts said the White House intends to hold non-defense, non-homeland security discretionary spending within a narrow range that amounts to a freeze in spending, or a cut when inflation is factored in.

-snip-

The belt-tightening will, however, extend to the Pentagon and homeland security.

2. So the general theory is...
* gives the treasury's money to the rich and corporates. Now he stops govt. spending so that the little people need to borrow money from the ones who stole their taxes.

Nice.

3. Um
There's a contradiction in this article. First they say the cut in spending will occur only in non-defense and non-homeland security (hate that phrase, too much like Fatherland) and then this:

The belt-tightening will, however, extend to the Pentagon and homeland security.

Which, by the way, I don't believe for a SECOND.

Yeah, schools? Fuck em, they're not important. VA hospitals? Fuck em, they're not important! Anything other than bombs? Fuck it, not important!

God, we have our priorities misplaced around here.

6. From what I've read
The DOD will be cutting back on new Navy ships and a new fighter airplane, (F-22 ?), to keep the DOD budget static even with the $ for Iraq.

7. Hell, then, SEND CONGRESS HOME!!!!
Put them on a part-time retainer, and have them come in every three months, give an up vote for a continuing resolution, and use the saved pay to punch down the deficit! Who needs budgets anyway, if we are going to use the same tally sheets as last year?

They are gonna have to do some increases, or take cuts in some areas, or find other economies. I don't know about you, but the cost of EVERYTHING has risen for me in the past year....

11. OK. So Bush Won't allow our $ to be spent on our needs
Surprise. He's going to funnel them to corporate globalism and tell us we must cut back on our expectations of the $ we pay in. He has other sources to expend our $ on.

OK. Bush sheeple may buy it, I don't.

13. Too late, he signed that pork-filled omnibus
and is probably poring over yacht specs each evening by the fire with the First Lady.

And, of course:

Bush's budget will not include the skyrocketing cost of military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Instead he will submit a supplemental budget request in February or March totaling between $80 billion and $100 billion, congressional aides said.

14. Yes this is the neo-con ideal.
Wipe out social services by running up ridiculous budget deficits and increasing military spending. No money for education, social security, welfare, etc. Good-bye New Deal once and for all. Disgusting.

If you cut off the masses from the basic services they need, they not only have the ability but soon develop the will to revolt even in a facist totalitarian state.
