Blair sets stage for election battle
LONDON (Reuters) - Prime Minister Tony Blair sets the stage today for an election battle over crime and tackling terrorism when he outlines his legislative plans for the next parliamentary session ahead of a vote expected in May.

Proposals to curb crime ranging from street violence and drug abuse to terrorism will feature in the government's plans, which will be read out by the Queen in a ceremony at the Houses of Parliament on Tuesday.

Blair, vying for a third term, wants to beef up his Labour Party's credentials on crime, aware that it is a prime concern of voters and an area where the opposition Conservative Party could make inroads, analysts said.

2. Tony's buddies across the Atlantic
will show him how to run a real election. How to get those ballots to go your way. It's a novel idea, that's catching on.
