Debbie Schlussel: Suspected VA Tech shooter might be a "Paki," part of "terrorist attack"
Edited on Tue Apr-17-07 11:07 PM by marmar
Yet another right-wing Nazi warthog, this Schlussel is. :argh:

From Media Matters:

Debbie Schlussel suspected VA Tech shooter might be a "Paki," part of "terrorist attack"

Responding to the April 16 mass shooting at Virginia Tech, right-wing pundit Debbie Schlussel "speculat" in an April 16 weblog post that the shooter, who had been identified at that point only as a man of Asian descent, might be a "Paki" Muslim and part of "a coordinated terrorist attack." "Paki" is a disparaging term for a person of Pakistani descent.

Schlussel wrote, "The murderer has been identified by law enforcement and media reports as a young Asian male," adding, "The Virginia Tech campus has a very large Muslim community, many of which are from Pakistan." Schlussel continued: "Pakis are considered 'Asian,' " and asked, "Were there two and was this a coordinated terrorist attack?" Schlussel asserted that the reason she was "speculating that the 'Asian' gunman is a Pakistani Muslim" was "ecause law enforcement and the media strangely won't tell us more specifically who the gunman is." Schlussel claimed that "ven if it does not turn out that the shooter is Muslim, this is a demonstration to Muslim jihadists all over that it is extremely easy to shoot and kill multiple American college students."

In updates to her posting, after more information became known about the shooter, Schlussel first claimed that "he shooter has now been identified as a Chinese national here on a student visa," which she called "et another reason to stop letting in so many foreign students." Schlussel later wrote that the killer was a "South Korean national." The killer was later identified as Cho Seung-Hui, "a South Korean who was a resident alien in the United States."

As Media Matters for America noted, in a December 18, 2006, online post headlined "Barack Hussein Obama: Once a Muslim, Always A Muslim," Schlussel argued that because Sen. Barack Obama's (D-IL) middle name is Hussein, his late, estranged father was of Muslim descent, and he has shown interest in his father's Kenyan heritage, Obama's "loyalties" must be called into question. As Media Matters also noted, on the June 14 edition of MSNBC's Scarborough Country, Schlussel falsely claimed that "there wasn't a peep" from Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) when Suha Arafat, wife of former Palestinian National Authority president Yasir Arafat, stated that Israelis "poison Palestinian water and air and cause cancer for them." In fact, according to an October 6, 2000, New York Times article, Clinton disavowed Arafat's remarks after receiving an official translation "hours later."

Debbie Schlussel
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Debbie Schlussel on Your World with Neil Cavuto in July 2006. Schlussel is often a guest on a number of radio and television talk shows because of her views.Debbie Schlussel (born April 9, 1969) is a Detroit-based attorney, radio talk show host, columnist, and blogger.

Early life
Schlussel was born in 1969 to a family of Polish Jewish descent. Her grandparents were Holocaust survivors, her mother born in a concentration camp, and her father a Vietnam War veteran.

Her teenage activities included representing the United States in the Maccabiah Games, where she won a number of medals. She got her political start, however, as a Young Republican, winning the title of "Outstanding Teen Age Republican in the Nation" in 1987. She later became the youngest female and youngest Jewish delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1988<1> and worked on many campaigns, including her failed run for the Michigan House of Representatives, which she lost by one vote (had she won, she would've been the youngest person to win the post).

She is a graduate of the University of Michigan and holds both MBA and JD degrees from the University of Wisconsin. <MORE>

4. She must have been so deeply disappointed
to find out it was not a "Paki", not an "Arab", not a "Jihadist", not an illegal alien, and not even a legal alien here on a student visa. It would have meant so much to her and brought such joy to her heart and delight to her soul if she only could have stirred up a little more hatred in the world. I'm so sorry for Debbie's loss.

6. She was part of Olbermann's "Worst Person in the World" roll of dishonor last night.
The special VT edition. Devoted to her and to two idiots who implied that the students, etc., were cowards because too many of them ran and hid instead of trying to stop the gunman.

Disgusting.

7. No offense
But really, why do you waste your time on this crap?

Spend you efforts on something that is worthwhile. Go through some of the document dumps that Conyers has been receiving.

Plant a garden.

Make apple martinis.

These people exist just to piss you off. Don't let them anymore. They are so not influential. They are just antagonistic.

Arabic, Persian or far Middle Eastern, didn't they?

15. Schlussel also wages a nonstop campaign to share her wisdom on the TV
And of course, it works. Not because she has anything worthwhile to contribute, but apparently because of her constant stream of emails. So that must be why there is a dearth of liberal guests, they just don't understand the finer points of clicking the "send" button:

"Every morning, Tammy Haddad, executive producer of MSNBC's "Hardball with Chris Matthews," hears from more than 100 aspiring commentators. They each explain why they'd be the perfect guest to spout off on the issues of the day. "We call them 'street meat,' " says Ms. Haddad. "They're always available, walking the streets, waiting for your call on their cellphones."

They are the minor-league pundits -- political consultants, professors, activists, actors, journalists, bloggers and opinionated civilians -- and they're using 21st-century stunts to troll for airtime. Some try to break out of the blogs by repeating particular phrases in their written rants, designed to pop their sites up when TV bookers search for keywords online. Others are buying air time on AM and Internet radio stations to practice their punditry. And many are turning to media advisers or partisan training programs, where they learn new rules of engagement, such as how to use food to bribe producers. The ploys can work, as networks like CNN regularly survey the field, looking for new contributors.

Debbie Schlussel, 37 years old, supports her pundit habit by practicing commercial law in suburban Detroit. She is among the most proactive B-list pundits. Almost daily, she emails her appearance schedule, availability or sharp-elbowed conservative commentaries to 5,000 people in media and politics.

...

So far this year, Ms. Schlussel has appeared on more than 600 radio shows and 35 TV programs, she says. But while Ms. Coulter, America's most-famous blonde pundit, earns millions, the also-blonde Ms. Schlussel has earned well under $10,000 this year from her punditry, she says. Still, Ms. Schlussel feels momentum: Her online fan clubs have grown to 5,496 members."
