Anyone See the New Homophobic Racist Law Passed Yesterday?
Another thoroughly disgusting piece of racist crap from VA republicans who think we live in the Dark Ages. I get really sick of looking into their vacuous eyes expecting to see something human. And then, they make it worse with legislation like this.

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/po/20040423/co_po/virginiatakesawaygaypartnerrights

<<< Virginia takes away gay partner rights

Lawmakers in Virginia passed a sweeping ban on same-sex partners on Wednesday that outlaws any "partnership contract or other arrangements that purport to provide the benefits of marriage."

Equality Virginia believes the Marriage Affirmation Act (HB 751) will likely bar same-sex couples in Virginia from obtaining a medical power of attorney, making custody decisions and carrying out estate planning directives.

The statewide GLBT organization also believes the new legislation will halt health insurance coverage through those companies in Virginia currently able to offer benefits to unmarried partners. >>>

The bill is expected to become law July 1. Supporters of HB 751 earned two-thirds majorities in the House of Delegates and the Senate, thus protecting the bill from a gubernatorial veto. >>>

4. Get this....
A few months ago.. my online payment for the electric did not go through. So I called them up to ask why only to learn that my account had been changed.

My partner and I moved into our current apartment just about two years ago. We had to get the electric in both our names. From what I learned the power company called the complex and somehow the complex had the name on the bill changed to be only mine.

Am I looking to deep into this?

Fortunately dominion found my payment and credited my new account.

7. No they are not.
Though I didn't ask, I didn't want to go through the trouble of having to get another account. The apartment complex doesn't mind that it is only in my name, even though in the beginning they asked us to put in both our names.

3. Yea I did...
My Partner showed me the article this morning. I was about to go looking for it. Unfortunately the bill is veto proof. I just hope that Warner will veto it anyway and make the damn legislature vote to overturn it. Warner will gain my total respect if he does actually veto a "veto proof" bill. Hell he can't run for re-election for governor I see no reason why he shouldn't.

9. Which one?
I didn't think the VA legislature passed any laws OTHER than homophobic, racists, misogynist bullshit. That's why the state doesn't have a budget right now -- there are more important issues to deal with, like whether it's unamerican to prohibit car passengers from drinking alcohol while riding or prohibit high schoolers from storing rifles in their oncampus cars after an early morning hunting trip.
