Just days before Dem presidential hopeful John Kerry is set to take the stage in a debate opener projected to be seen by 70 million, photos show the senator dramatically taking on color.

Is it the late September Wisconsin sun during debate prep that has turned Kerry's face to rich pumpkin-colored hues?

Or has he been campaigning in the rust-belt?

It's definetly a non-issue that Kerry turns orange in big situations. It gives his face a more youthful and human flesh tone color in certain liking. Sometimes it can look orange but hopefully it will come out good in the debates, and the media will actually talk about substance.

This does kind of look like a fake bake ... like he went to the spray-on tanning booth and got a double-shot on the front like Ross on "Friends."

Unfucking believable. I have never visited Drudge's site and don't need to. Last night I saw Kerry's face and almost fell out of bed in a seizure of nominee masochism. I host debate watching parties and yesterday had a few of my invitees confirm, saying they were looking forward to seeing Kerry live for the first time.

How can we let this happen, on the brink of his most vital appearance? Yesterday his face looked crinkled and drawn and damn near grotesque, maybe three or four shades of burnt. Didn't we learn anything from debate #1 in 2000? And hasn't Kerry ever heard of sunblock?

You know damn well a Chris Matthews will pounce on any bizarre distraction like that, and suddenly Saturday Night Live will do a skit with Kerry portrayed by a black guy.

Kerry should be wrapped in a tent before he sees one more drop of sunlight before Thursday.

I noticed while watching a clip of his speech on the PBS News Hour last night that he seemed unusually tanned--probably from speaking at outdoor rallies an especially windsurfing, since sun reflected off water can produce quite a deep tan.

I thought immediately that someone in the media would make a big deal out of this, just as they did with Gore's overdone makeup during that one debate.

I think the orangeness in the Drudge pic is photoshopped, but it really was a noticeably deep tan when I saw him on PBS yesterday.

Yes, it is an absolutely absurd detail to even think about. And yet we know for a fact that much will be made of it, and that the media whores will spend all their time blathering about the degree of his tan, its relative orangeness, and whether it has been enhanced by a tube product of some sort. They won't report his criticism of Bush's record or Bush's lies. All they will talk about is John Kerry's (gasp!) tan.

Blaming Supercrash for mentioning this fact is not fair. He isn't saying it should be an important issue. He is saying that it will be made an important issue by the Bush campaign and their media whores. It will be used exactly the way Dean's scream was used.

Why is everyone piling on Supercrash for even mentioning that undoubted truth?

a tube product to look orange. Models NEVER tan, because it looks...orange on camera. It's probably real, whether obtained from the sun or the tanning booth. It should be fine by Thursday.

I was channel surfing last night and happened upon the evening news on Faux with Brit Hume. He started a long winded disclaimer about how Kerry looked orange in the photo clips and claimed that the photos had not been altered. He went on for about 45 seconds - which is a fair amount of time on TV. I knew right away that this would be in the media today and would be a distraction from the debates.

I must confess, JFK did look like he spent too much time in a tanning booth or used that spray on tan. If so, it seems like a poor idea considering the debates are upcoming.

On MSNBC, Bill Press said that Kerry already looks like he's on Mount Rushmore, he towers over Bush, and he looks extremely presidential.

He said that this is just a coordinated smear designed to knock Kerry's appearance down a few notches so that Bush can start at ZERO. He said that Pat Buchanan and Matt Drudge have no way of proving whether Kerry's tan is fake or not, and that they're showing their cards and getting a little bit desperate.

He's absolutely right about that, isn't he? The MSNBC reporter shut his piehole and moved on to talking about oil prices. :D

who has been with Kerry these days in Spring Green. I told her that the enormous issue of the day is that Kerry is too tan and that we should get him a parasol...

She said that he keeps hopping out of the car in the motorcades, so he can be outside and meet people. Drives the SS nuts. And today, he was sick of being inside all day and insisted on spending some time outside (the weather has been stellar the past few days). Face it - the guy just doesn't like to be cooped up!
