Dean, Xavier Becerra CA 31, Raul Grijalva AZ-7, comment on trip to Mexico
http://news.yahoo.com/s/usnw/20051020/pl_usnw/statement_from_dnc_chairman_dean__congressman_becerra__and_congressman_grijalva_on_visit_to_mexico_and_immigration_reform316_xm

WASHINGTON, Oct. 19 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Following is a statement from DNC Chairman Dean, Congressman Becerra, and Congressman Grijalva on visit to Mexico and immigration reform:

Having just returned from a two day visit to Mexico City, Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean and Democratic Congressmen Xavier Becerra (CA-31) and Raul Grijalva (AZ-7) issued the following joint statement on improving the relationship between the two countries:

"We are grateful first and foremost to the Mexican people for their hospitality and warmth during our visit to Mexico City. We are also grateful to the presidential candidates from all three parties who took time to meet with us at such a critical time in their campaigns. We did not go to Mexico to evaluate the candidates, but rather to develop working relationships with the country's future leadership. Few relationships are as important to the United States as that with our neighbors in Mexico. We walked away from our meetings confident that the people of Mexico understand that if we are to find viable solutions to our common problems, we have no choice but to work together.

" President Bush turned his back on Mexico and on President Fox after Mexico refused to support the U.S. invasion of Iraq. He was wrong to have done so. A strong relationship with Mexico is critical to the United States, particularly to addressing key issues like border security, drug trafficking, immigration, and economic issues critical to both countries.

"Sadly, President Bush's immigration proposal yesterday confirmed what we already knew: the Republicans in Washington are more interested in using immigration as an election issue than in finding a real solution. The Republican Administration and the Republican Congress may not be ready to lead, but Democrats are."

one of the few arizona democrats in a snakepit of az repubs, especially the odious JD Hayworth.
I wish Grijalva was our Arizona senator instead of Kyl...

3. I'm in awe of Howard Dean, yet again. Go Howard!
I worked for Dean during the primaries in Grijalva's district (Tucson area). It was interesting to see how diversity related to politics. Grijalva's election was hard fought and quite close in the tally. Xavier Becerra is from the East Los Angeles area and seems to have good intentions. They both should be US Senators!

5. Hey, thanks for "working for
Dean during the primaries" down there in Tucson..I bet that was interesting. I'm so glad Raul Grijalva pulled through. I worked for Dean's candidacy up here in New York.

4. This is impressive.
Governor Dean and his concern for positive change is both heartening and obvious.

Let's hope it becomes more contagious to others in Washington.

6. Couple more pics, and a link from the DNC blog. I am impressed by this.
I meant to include it in my OP. I have noticed that everywhere he goes out of the country he meets with the Democrats Abroad group. Organizing them is a good idea.

This post came from DNC Communications staffer Luis Miranda yesterday. He's currently traveling in Mexico with Governor Dean.

We just got out of a great meeting with the Dems Abroad in Mexico City. There were folks from all over Mexico who came out to greet Chairman Dean and who are very excited about continuing to organize and mobilize American voters who live abroad. Dean even got to meet with Joe Nash, originally from Illinois, who founded the Dems Abroad in Mexico way back in 1952...and he's still at it.

While in Mexico, Chairman Dean, Congressman Raul Grijalva from Arizona, and Congressman Xavier Becerra from California (in the pictures) are also going to meet with Presidential candidates from all three major parties in Mexico. 6 years ago, Mexico had one ruling party, and now they have a thriving Democracy. The visit is really sending a powerful message that Democrats will do a much better job of working with Mexico to strenghten their Democracy, and make sure we can do the hard work to make progress on issues like national security, drug trafficking, border security, and immigration, that the Bush Administration has failed so miserably at."

Saludos desde Mexico...

And this looks like the guy next to him might be the one who organized Mexico's Democrats Abroad in 1952. Most impressive
