Nader is the Michael Jackson of politics; his fans are similar too.
Edited on Fri Jul-01-05 06:36 PM by LoZoccolo
I am not saying that Michael Jackson is a child molester, or that Nader is. However, he seems to have some problems with adult relationships and has ones with children; that is known. I've brought up before that Nader seems to prey on college students, or more naive people, for political support, while he has alienated people he worked with a long time ago.

Now it's occurred to me that Nader's fans are similar to Michael Jackson's fans. During the Michael Jackson trial, they would protest in front of the courthouse. Why? Protesting does not effect whether or not a jury will find enough evidence to convict. In the same way, the actions of the Naderites will not bring about what they claim to want. It is just as well all for show.

2. I think it does.
I think it is important politically, to have a strategy that gets you what you want, and not to forsake getting 20% of what you want to get 5% attempting to get 80%. I think politics is about things like that.

3. Why is your view on their behavior
important to discuss today? I recognize your point in your reply much better than the initial thread post.Your point had merit 10 months ago... but it appears to want to inflame the Nader voters and I want to be a Nader uniter this year.

4. As a deterrent to future similar tactics on their part.
We must remain vigilant of the strategic health of our cause, and of future generations of activists who may fall prey to manipulative tactics. We must learn from our history or we may have to repeat it.

7. Agreed....but to compare them to Michael Jackson and/or
his fans is not the way to attract Nader voters to reason. That will turn them off immediately. I wanted to puke and I agree with you.

5. It is a Rovian tactic to keep the anti-Bush forces divided
particularly now with a vacancy in SCOTUS, the DSM, and Bush's sinking numbers.

We must refuse to take the bait, regardles of who is offering it, and we must remain resolute in our common interest in defeating the Bush agenda and holding Bush accountable for his crimes.

6. Naderites were the first to divide...

...and support Bush*'s election, and they also had Republican support to get Nader on ballots and be promoted.

with Nader too....after the Primaries. Dean called him on his right-wing connection. On the other hand...Dean wanted to have Nader come under our Democratic umbrella after pointing out the right wing manipulation.

18. Take a good look at yourself in the mirror bud
and ask yourself if what you are doing is helping or hindering.

20. Helping.
- Repentant Nader voters know that what they did was ineffective, and would not disagree that it's bad to vote for Nader.
- Unrepentant Nader voters don't seem to be able to be relied upon to do what's effective when needed.
- Potential Nader voters are given a deterrent.

8. I agree with you about Nader and the college students
Edited on Fri Jul-01-05 06:48 PM by creeksneakers2
Naderites collect student activity funds from colleges. I think if most students knew that, they'd put a stop to their fees being used that way. I think the Naderites prey on the young and idealistic.

I don't see what it has to do with Michael Jackson though. I think Michael's fans were there to show support for Michael. They kept Michael's spirits up.

11. I am not saying this about every Nader voter, but the people i know
who voted Nader did so just to be different - did not know a thing about his politics, just "we will be as bad off with Kerry as we are with Bush." He attracts people who think they are "cool" for being different or going against the mainstream.

12. True but he also attracts other sorts
My mother who is almost 70 and worked for the Adlai Stevenson campaign and is an old line Democrat came very close to voting for Nader in 2004.
She may have in 2000, I'm not sure.
I'd hardly characterize her as someone who does things just to be different and who doesn't know much about politics. I remember in 1972 as soon as Watergate broke her and my father both telling me they knew Nixon was involved, that it was exactly the kind of tricks he'd been pulling the first time he ran for Congress in the district in which they lived at the time.

when you'd equate Nader with Terrorists! That's one of my favorites.

15. I'm not sure I remember much about that.
I'm not saying I didn't; I just don't remember it too clearly. Do you remember if it was the time where I said I was going to send Nader to jail for running for president when I'm elected?

I did compare him to Stalin, and this isn't the first time I've compared him to Michael Jackson. I also asked Naderites who they'd vote for if Nader dropped out (the only choices I gave were Pat Buchanan and Ted Kaczinsky), but that was quickly locked.
