DeLay to step down?
Kevin Drum (Calpundit) thinks so:

From Roll Call (subscription only):

"House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) has begun quiet discussions with a handful of colleagues about the possibility that he will have to step down from his leadership post temporarily if he is indicted by a Texas grand jury investigating alleged campaign finance abuses.

...Republican Conference rules state that a member of the elected leadership who has been indicted on a felony carrying a penalty of at least two years in prison must temporarily step down from the post."

Could we be so fortunate?

I haven't heard a word about this? When did it show up?

edit: It only says leadership position. Lott stepped down from his, but it still isn't any better. Well, it is a bit quieter coming from Mississippi so I guess it is a little better.

4. The Pest Control Man Is In Trouble
The possible indictment may be coming from an ethics
investigation being currently conducted by Travis County DA
Ronnie Earle.

A 1907 Texas law prohibits corporate campaign contributions in
state races, and his PAC Texans for a Republican Majority
raised a bunch of moolah in order to get a Repugnican majority
in the Lege.

Those contributions were laundered through the RNC, then
rediributed back to Texas, where they were handed out by
current House speaker Tom Craddock, who was campaigning for
the speaker's job. he's also in legal hot water over that.

Once they wiped out the Democratic majority in the Texas
House, they passed every conservative wet dream bill, and
rubber stamped the Delaymandering of Texas' congressional
districts.

I'll be throwing a serious party if it happens.

3. I'll believe it when I see it
They don't come any dirtier than Tom DeLay. Unfortunately, with all the damage he's done in Texas and in Congress, watching "The Hammer" get hammered out of power would only be a slap on the wrist for that scoundrel.
