"IMPEACH HIM" (email I sent to all Senator's May 13)
I am writing today to implore you to do something about President Bush and his tactics for going to Iraq immediately and stop the use of all depleted uranium weapons.
The memo that was leaked 13 days ago, begs for immediate action against President Bush and his entire Administration.
By Greg Palast

Here it is. The smoking gun. The memo that has "IMPEACH HIM" written all over it.

The top-level government memo marked "SECRET AND STRICTLY PERSONAL," dated eight months before Bush sent us into Iraq, following a closed meeting with the President, reads, "Military action was now seen as inevitable. Bush wanted to remove Saddam through military action justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy."

Read that again: "The intelligence and facts were being fixed...."

For years, after each damning report on BBC TV, viewers inevitably ask me, "Isn't this grounds for impeachment?" -- vote rigging, a blind eye to terror and the bin Ladens before 9-11, and so on. Evil, stupidity and self-dealing are shameful but not impeachable. What's needed is a "high crime or misdemeanor."

And if this ain't it, nothing is.

The memo uncovered this week by the Times, goes on to describe an elaborate plan by George Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair to hoodwink the planet into supporting an attack on Iraq knowing full well the evidence for war was a phony.

IRAQ: PRIME MINISTER'S MEETING, 23 JULY

Copy addressees and you met the Prime Minister on 23 July to discuss Iraq.

This record is extremely sensitive. No further copies should be made. It should be shown only to those with a genuine need to know its contents.

John Scarlett summarised the intelligence and latest JIC assessment. Saddam's regime was tough and based on extreme fear. The only way to overthrow it was likely to be by massive military action. Saddam was worried and expected an attack, probably by air and land, but he was not convinced that it would be immediate or overwhelming. His regime expected their neighbours to line up with the US. Saddam knew that regular army morale was poor. Real support for Saddam among the public was probably narrowly based.

C reported on his recent talks in Washington. There was a perceptible shift in attitude. Military

:applause:

Actually, what happened was I wrote to Congressman John Boozman, my Representative (R) and I became so infuriated while writing the ass that I spent around 3 and half hours sending the same email to all of the Senate !
Probably, would not take others as long to send all the emails but I was sick, so it was slow going.

might help them to get the lead out of their asses and doing what is needed to prod the Judiciary Committee to begin impeachment proceedings.

they'll listen.

I used to write an email a month. That got old cause I got fed up. Now it's more like 1 every 3 months. I think it's time to go 1 a week.

I'm with you, time to contact everyone we can, to make them pay attention to us, time to stop the criminals before they can commit more crimes.

I will model my email/letter/fax after yours, thank you for the links. Thanks hiley, for the encouragement!
((((((((((((((((solidarity)))))))))))))))) :grouphug:

If anyone else wants to send out emails, please remember that you can find all sorts of contact information in the Activism Forum.
calimary has a specific thread full of resources just for this purpose.

DUERS: THE FIVE-STAR ACTIVISTS' RESOURCE THREAD, UPDATED 7/9/04
Just an opening note:

The following is the very latest compilation of contact information for the media, congress, and various other relevant organizations and groups. It is the result of a lot of excellent work and resourcefulness on the part of many DUers. It's the most up-to-date and comprehensive collection that I've been able to assemble.

This is by no means the last word. This collection is an evolving work, as new resources are needed and discovered. If you find some new, relevant info, by all means add it in!

The purpose for this is to have everything we need for emailing, faxing, phoning, and snail mailing purposes - all easily located in ONE master thread. From time to time, I've added a few choice comments and testimonials from other DUers regarding the critical importance of making your opinions known to the media and to policy makers and others in positions of influence or leadership, for motivational purposes.

Please note, this thread is NEW AND IMPROVED, and is meant to REPLACE earlier similar threads.

After all...

IF THEY THINK WE DON'T CARE, THEY WON'T, EITHER!!

32. Why Congressman Conyers called for Special Investigation
– First, there is a chance, however remote, that they will do the right thing. Although Mr Aschcroft did not see fit to appoint a single special counsel during his tenure, including clear cut conflicts involving Enron, Haliburton and Westar, there is always the chance that Mr. Gonzales will actually fairly apply the law (as Ms. Reno did quite frequently under President Clinton).

– Second, even if they refuse, there is at least an element of accountability. When I see abuses, I can choose to either shrug my shoulders and regret that Gore or Kerry was not elected (at least not officially), or I can call the Administration to task so that their failure to undertake an investigation or respond to an inquiry constitutes yet another element of their abuse of power. While the Administration frequently does ignore the requests of a single congressman, it is significantly more difficult to ignore the requests of 50 or 80 congressional representatives.

– Third, by publicizing the wrongdoing, it helps educate the public, who in turn can provide me and the media with additional information that can help further congressional and public understanding. Simply by reading responses to these posts I have been apprized of much critical information that has helped further my understanding, and in turn has led to further inquiries.

Whenever someone as outstanding as Congressman Conyers fights the system, we must fight with him, on the War Crimes, and the Downing Street Memo.

Lets Not Forget: Bush Planned Iraq 'Regime Change' Before Becoming President

By Neil Mackay
15 September 2002: A SECRET blueprint for US global domination reveals that President Bush and his cabinet were planning a premeditated attack on Iraq to secure 'regime change' even before he took power in January 2001.
The blueprint, uncovered by the Sunday Herald, for the creation of a 'global Pax Americana' was drawn up for Dick Cheney (now vice- president), Donald Rumsfeld (defence secretary), Paul Wolfowitz (Rumsfeld's deputy), George W Bush's younger brother Jeb and Lewis Libby (Cheney's chief of staff). The document, entitled Rebuilding America's Defences: Strategies, Forces And Resources For A New Century, was written in September 2000 by the neo-conservative think-tank Project for the New American Century (PNAC).

The plan shows Bush's cabinet intended to take military control of the Gulf region whether or not Saddam Hussein was in power. It says: 'The United States has for decades sought to play a more permanent role in Gulf regional security. While the unresolved conflict with Iraq provides the immediate justification, the need for a substantial American force presence in the Gulf transcends the issue of the regime of Saddam Hussein.'

13. Not only send this information to Senators, but also to the media ....
I also think all of us in conversations with others, email mails to others, etc......bring up whether or not bush should be impeached. If the word impeachment starts circulating enough then the seed might be planted that bush and the rest of the repubs are corrupt and need to be either impeached or voted out of office. The tactic the repubs use is to keep talking constantly about anything the public might perceive as negative(doesn't even have to be true) and eventually it sways voters.

GEORGE WALKER BUSH
President of the United States of America

The Prosecution has presented a formidable Indictment against the Defendant, George Walker Bush, President of the United States and Commander -in-Chief of US military forces for serious crimes ; waging a war of aggression on Afghanistan, war crimes and crimes against humanity against the Afghan people, against prisoners of war ; and the use of radioactive depleted uranium weapons of mass destruction , against the people of Afghanistan ; with serious fall out effects on the military personnel of the United States ,UK and other forces deployed ; and on countries, in and around the region .

6. 11th September 2001 attacks in the United States had no connection with Afghanistan .

The prosecution has questioned the factual and legal basis of this defense , submitting at page 17 of its Indictment that -

"….. it is not etablished that the 9.11 incidents were the acts of Osama bin Laden and the al Qaeda ……..the letter to the Chairman of the UN Security Council which the United States sent on October 7 ,2001 and another letter which the United Kingdom sent of October 4, 2001 and the videotape released on December 13 are inadequate as defences .Therefore the criminal activities of Osama bin Laden and the members of the al Qaeda have never been established enough to prosecute them for 9.11 incidents".

19. One government is as bad as the other...
America's Depleted Uranium Weapons Have Devastated Iraq

Severe radioactive pollution and disease have been inflicted on Iraq through the use of weapons hardened with depleted uranium, and Iraqi authorities must seek redress from the occupying powers. The discovery of Iraqi sites with depleted uranium is garnering little attention in the Iraqi media, despite the fact that the Environment Ministry from time to time reports evidence of uranium pollution in Baghdad and Basra, and in other regions of the country. These reports point to the many damaged military vehicles left in areas scarred by battle in 2003. Much of this wreckage remains polluted by uranium, and is collected and sold in surrounding areas as junk. The Environment Ministry has also pointed to the presence of uranium in tree trunks. This is not the first time that the issue of pollution from depleted uranium has been a problem here. The previous regime appealed to international organizations for help in addressing the dangers of these pollutants, and accused the World Health Organization of procrastination, after American forces attacked Iraq during the First Gulf War in 1991 with over 94,000 missiles coated with depleted uranium.Depleted uranium has become a permanent fixture in the Iraqi environment, and the question today is what are the consequences of radioactive contamination to public health in Iraq, and why isn't this issue being raised by the authorities?
Since their occupation of the country in 2003, the Americans have brought with them more than just the "fruits of democracy and freedom." What the purpose of the American project in Iraq and the region is, only Allah knows, but local and international authorities are behaving as though Iraqis and their environment are immune from the harm that results from the use of these types of weapons. http://www.watchingamerica.com/azzaman000005.html

23. Now is the time for patriots to act.
That noise you hear? It's the sound of America's Founders spinning in their graves. And well they should, for this scenario is precisely the massive concentration of power they most feared. All branches of the government are now in the hands of the same party (meaning, effectively, there virtually are no branches any longer).

The so-called opposition party facilitates Republican rule through the flattery of imitation, when it hasn't gone into hiding instead. The public is frightened and ill-informed. And now this. To this hall of shame list must be added a mainstream press which a week ago seemed only biased and intimidated, but now appears entirely complicit. We are now living precisely the nightmare of Washington, Jefferson, Madison and the rest. It must stop. We cannot have a prayer of an informed public curbing the worst excesses of American government if, in fact, that public is not informed. Sad as it is, if we ever hope to reclaim American democracy, it appears we must now fight for outrageous news to be aired, if we ever expect that news to outrage.

Notwithstanding our worst horrors and fears these last four years, American democracy is in deeper trouble than we knew. Now is the time for patriots to act.

Name Withheld Pending Notification

By Cindy Sheehan

05/08/05 "ICH" - - When I woke up this morning, the "official" death count in Iraq was 1576. The first thing I do in the morning after I boot up my computer is to check the DoD website to see if any more of our nation's precious children were killed in this horror of a nonsensical war. I was talking to another Gold Star Mom, Celeste Zappala, today and she sadly advised me that the count rose to 1579 (note: the official count is now 1594) while she was out to lunch.

Celeste and I and too many other moms know what the significance of "Pending Notification" means: it means that there are people in our country going through their lives right now not even knowing that they are about to be ambushed with the most devastating news of their lives: "We regret to inform you…"

Rep. John Conyers, a Democrat from Michigan, is peeved. He can't understand why an explosive story published early this month in England hasn't received more attention here.

On May 1, The Sunday Times of London reported the British government and the United States government secretly conspired to attack Iraq in 20

Dear Congressman:

Thank you for your letter. The issues you've raised are of dire importance to the public interest and all of us constituting the "mainstream media." However, due to our changing demographics, evolving technology and the rapid growth of our industry, it is not an advantageous time to pursue "real news."

With all due respect, the genre has changed. In your day, news was just news. Guys like Edward R. Murrow, Walter Cronkite and Bob Woodward worked for news organizations that focused solely on ... well, news. Today, the same organizations that deliver information also deliver music, books, coffee, refrigerators, ball games, concerts, fun parks and weapons of mass destruction. Viacom owns CBS and MTV. NBC is owned by GE (a huge defense contractor). And ABC is the property of Disney.

In a very real sense, Mr. Conyers, Disneyland is today's news.

33. Great letter!
I have to say. I wrote letters to my Senators as well. The gist of them was pretty much the same. Basically, do your duty and serve your constituents the way you are supposed to. It is time that this "president" was removed from office and prosecuted, along with ANY government/administration official or employee that participated in this conspiracy AND anyone who STILL insists on burying their heads in the sand about it. If you are not willing to investigate and prosecute the matter fully I consider you to be complicit in the conspiracy and believe you should be prosecuted for your part as well.

I also added that IMO there is NO concievable reason to hand out pardons to ANY participant this time around. They ALL belong behind bars and that includes the president.

37. Hiley, you are an inspiration!
And what boundless energy... you go girl!
I don't know if they can be impeached as things stand, but that's no reason NOT to keep the pressure on now...
Same w/the question of Gonzales; these guys have been terribly masterful in their placement of their various chess pieces, making such efforts seem pointless... but again, that's no real rational argument against doing all you CAN do, while you still can...
You are inspirational in that regard; I've gotta get a few letters out there myself soon... I've just been feeling so damn exhausted of late...
Am I the ONLY one feeling totally BUSHED lately???...

Anyway, I will get to it soon... thanks for the nudge nudge!
(Wink wink!) :hi:
