PHOTOS: Rochester NY: Military Families shut down recruiting center !!

Rochester, New York STANDS UP against bush* wars....March 19, 2005

The demonstration represented a broad confluence of different groups. Religious, labor, civic, and student groups all participated in organizing the rally and march. In reference to the regional anti-war conference that took place last weekend at School Without Walls, Doug Noble of the Peace Action and education task force told the crowd; "The energy, intelligence, commitment of people of all ages at that event was electrifying, and for the first time in two years, I found myself revived from despair and empty rage.

5. That's awesome: "Stop the Poverty Draft!"
That's exactly what it is. Push them into poverty whereby they have few if any choices and track them right into the military.

Btw,welcome MollyStark! :hi:

10. Bless them
Bless them, bless them. There are no more valid, credible or honorable people to protest on this issue than current and former military, and their families. Returning vets were THE ONES, IMO, who turned the tide on Vietnam. Their credibility was simply unimpeachable -- if (some of) the vets were questioning it, that made all the "crazy hippies" maybe not so crazy after all. Etc.

19. Also they implied that the longer this quagmire goes on
the less we should be protesting it ?! The question was something like "After 2 years, don't you think it is about time to stop the protests?"

Au contrare

20. You will see Military families first.
When it gets to soldiers in uniform or current vets you know it is over.

23. I'm surprised, actually
During Vietnam, it took WAY longer for the military families to come out and start complaining. This is actually a positive step--they aren't waiting, quietly, trusting the government to do the right thing, like they did in the old days, when they felt that the protests denigrated their loved ones, instead of denigrating the government for its treatment of their loved ones.

It's not just unwashed, easily dismissed hippies on the barricades. It's spouses, kids and parents of uniformed personnel. They're griping, early and loud. It's a hopeful sign.
