Haiti's problems spill over into U.S. presidential race
By Steve Miller
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

MIAMI — In "Little Haiti" here, demonstrators gather nightly to chant anti-Bush rhymes and voice their support for deposed Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide.
"George Bush, kidnapper, blood sucker, liar, liar," reads one sign with a black-and-white photo of the president at the top.

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry last week accused Mr. Bush of fomenting conflict in Haiti out of ideological opposition to Mr. Aristide, who has claimed U.S. forces kidnapped him. He has vowed to return to the Caribbean island.
"This administration has been engaged in very manipulative and wrongful ways," said Mr. Kerry. "They have a theological and an ideological hatred for Aristide. They always have. They approached this so the insurgents were empowered by this administration."
Mr. Kerry has called for an investigation into the "kidnapping" accusation, which has been rebutted by the administration and France, both of whom say Mr. Aristide signed paperwork relinquishing his power.

4. Most...Larger population are citizens and...
they have the Congressional Black Caucus behind them. A strike against a black person, no matter their country of origin, is a strike against all black people. Hispanic people bind themselves the same way. That is why most hispanic people don't like cubans. Cubans always fight against what is best for all the hispanic population. It has worked for the Cubans because they have made themselves rich and seperate from the hispanic population, but if the republicans turn against the cubans, they got no place to go. They'll be isolated and powerless.

5. The US is like the ultimate dysfunctional relative
we've got our fingers in every country around the globe, except maybe Borneo. We don't do the right thing to help these countries, many of which are on the brink of poverty and social chaos.

We're involved to the hilt with politics, stirring up havoc in certain countries where we want to create political instability. What we're really after, though, are lucrative contracts like infrastructure, bridges, irrigation projects, dams and the like.

And of course there's always bananas. I read that thousands of people have died in Central America so that we could have a solid supply of bananas.

So what on earth could we want in Haiti? Other than fli-flop sandals and batik print fabric?
