Indications Saddam Was Not in Hiding But a Captive

DEBKAfile Special Report

December 14, 2003, 6:55 PM (GMT+02:00)

A number of questions are raised by the incredibly bedraggled, tired and crushed condition of this once savage, dapper and pampered ruler who was discovered in a hole in the ground on Saturday, December 13:

1. The length and state of his hair indicated he had not seen a barber or even had a shampoo for several weeks.

2. The wild state of his beard indicated he had not shaved for the same period

3. The hole dug in the floor of a cellar in a farm compound near Tikrit was primitive indeed – 6ft across and 8ft across with minimal sanitary arrangements - a far cry from his opulent palaces.

4. Saddam looked beaten and hungry.

5. Detained trying to escape were two unidentified men. Left with him were two AK-47 assault guns and a pistol, none of which were used.

6. The hole had only one opening. It was not only camouflaged with mud and bricks – it was blocked. He could not have climbed out without someone on the outside removing the covering.

7. And most important, $750,000 in 100-dollar notes were found with him (a pittance for his captors who expected a $25m reward)– but no communications equipment of any kind, whether cell phone or even a carrier pigeon for contacting the outside world.

According to DEBKAfile analysts, these seven anomalies point to one conclusion: Saddam Hussein was not in hiding; he was a prisoner.

Just as I suspected... the "capture" of Saddam was far too conveniently timed....

1. If the Mossad weren't self-serving liars
I might believe it.

I'd believe a leprechaun before I believed the Mossad.

6. Devka isn't Mossad though it is often used by the Mossad for disinformatio
Devka isn't Mossad though it is often used by the Mossad for deliberate disinformation in the past. They're free-lance former Intelligence Personnel both American and Israeli. Sometimes their stuff is worth gold- other times, usually for raw intel, it's worth crap.

I think their analysis makes sense and it certainly explains why Bush and Chalabi scrambled to set up an Iraqi Tribunal very recently, also explains the recent rumors that were floating around that Saddaam had been captured, and the utterly stupid story that he was telephoning his wife once a week and that officials had already spoken with her.

Your point however is a good one. Will be very curious to see what else comes out. Looks like this turkey is fake too ;)

LaHood: Hussein's capture imminent

Pantagraph Staff

BLOOMINGTON -- U.S. Rep. Ray LaHood held his thumb and forefinger slightly apart and said, "We're this close" to catching Saddam Hussein.
Once that's accomplished, Iraqi resistance will fall apart, said the five-term Republican congressman from Peoria who serves on the House Intelligence Committee.

A member of The Pantagraph editorial board -- not really expecting an answer -- asked LaHood for more details, saying, "Do you know something we don't?"

"Yes I do," replied LaHood.

11. Please present your sources
to indicate that Debka is anything other than two Israeli "journalists" (and there using the term loosely). Please show a connection of any sort to the Mossad.

13. Can't do your own research?
Edited on Mon Dec-15-03 05:04 PM by Tinoire
Not surprised. These type of "requests" are nothing more than an effort to waste people's time and derail conversations.

I am not obliging.

15. Naw, I just don't like your tactics since I'm already familiar w/ them
Edited on Mon Dec-15-03 05:23 PM by Tinoire
There are a few posters at DU that I will never oblige with my time. Many of those people thought this war was a good idea a few months ago and were celebrating yesterday. Maybe you could ask one of them to cut into their celebration time and help you out if you can't do it on your own

And aw, what a shame... the little man next to your name just went to sleep.

4. What about the pistol that Sadam was packing
It would be a little strange to give a prisoner a loaded pistol, would it not? Of course I have no way of knowing whether he really did have a pistol, that's just what the media said.

5. Curious
I agree with the above statements as to trusting Mossad, but I am curious as to what advantage it would be for Mossad to present SH as being held captive, as opposed to hiding out?

8. Maybe they're pissed at Bush for not invading Syria yet?
And this is a coded message to Junior : either stick to the PNAC plan, or we'll expose your so called "victory".

Just a theory....

9. None of those items point to him being captive
IMHO

I mean they didn't expect him to be living in a palace and strolling around down town Tikrit looking for a barber did they?

10. What about the regular phone calls to his wife?
Were they in attempt to obtain a ransom? If so then his wife should be able to explain that.

Otherwise, Saddam was calling his wife on his own. Again, his wife would be able to verify that.

12. Please change the title
Edited on Mon Dec-15-03 04:51 PM by mobuto
Nothing in the article suggests that Mossad thinks anything of the sort. The title therefore is completely misleading and violates LBN rules.
