U.S. military decries 'despicable' video
An online video allegedly showing the body of a U.S. flier being dragged in Iraq is "despicable," the U.S. military said Wednesday.

"We are outraged that anyone would create and publish such a despicable video for public exposure," Withington said.

The video dated April 2 showed part of what appeared to be a burning body being dragged.

1. Oh Boy, That's Rich
"We are outraged that anyone would create and publish such a despicable video for public exposure," Withington said"

I guess since our prison torture videos weren't meant to be for "public exposure" that they were okay.

3. Oh hell...
There are plenty of videos available on the Internet, taken by US troops, showing stuff like that. The only difference is that the tables are turned; dead Iraqis.

It is just as bad for US troops to make and disseminate such stuff. Neither side can honestly claim the moral high ground in this.

when Macnamara asked how they persevered in spite of that horrific casualty rate?

5. But is is okay to show Iraqi victims particularly
the four-year old terra-ists. Of course the behavior was despicable. And I would probably not want such a video broadcast on the nightly news. But Americans must know what is happening, the degree of hatred others feel towards us.

8. THATS NOT THE PHOTO
Lynchings and Holy Wars
Black-clad Mahdi army militiamen drag the body of Sheikh Ghazi Al-Zoba’i, the Imam and preacher of the Al-Sabbar mosque around a street in Husseiniya, a mixed suburb north of Baghdad.

I reported this lynching incident during the sectarian attacks that followed the Samarra shrine bombing. This is an extremely disturbing cell phone video clip of the whole scene.

Lynching in Baghdad

Someone shouts: “drag the Wahhabi,” while another describes him as a “bastard.” They pause a moment to search for a wire, then they dump him on the side of the road. Another militiaman suggests they bury him. “What do you mean bury him?” the gang leader snaps back with indignation. “Leave him here to the dogs.” Then they joke about his underwear and cover the corpse with a cardboard.

12. I was thinking the same thing. Fallujah was destroyed because...
well, yeah, it was this hotbed of terrarizzm!

It had NOTHING to do with the charred bodies of American contractors being hung up on display, nope...

20. Exactly. Remember Falloujah?
Those CACI or Titan "security people" were ambushed and killed. Their bodies were strung up on a bridge.

I read that after those photos were published, Bush was red-hot for revenge. A week later, Falloujah was leveled.

I don't know how many Iraqis were killed, but he evened the score.

Not only is it a unreliable way of getting information, it relieves the enemy of any obligation not to torture YOU.

Sadly is also prevents us from claiming any moral outrage when they do such horrid things to our troops. :cries: Nobody in the world community cares USA ... we lost our sparkle as the defenders of compassion and liberty.

Perhaps we were never models of humanism, but we can't even begin to feign such moral fiber at this point. Tragic.

Edited on Wed Apr-05-06 01:15 PM by fshrink
The dominant way here is under the table, far from the eyes, for private, authorized consumption only, or on virtual games. Then it's not despicable. Well, some people on this planet are still unfamiliar with the modern rules of spectacle.

21. Recommend this folks!!
Is this part of the "good news" from Iraq? Remember when this happened in Somalia? The right was calling for Clinton's head on a platter! We should be calling for *'s head on a platter now!

I feel for the families. I'd say that this was spiraling out of control but it was never in control in the first place.

This is horrible, simply horrible.
