In crisis after crisis--hell, even in wild festival like celebrations--the small percentage of sonofabitch males who would only rape "if they could get away with it" finally think they can get away with it. I refuse to deny that chaos can often mean open season on women, just because reports of it right now might be serving Mubarak's interests.

We rightly worry that false accusations of widespread rape can be used by one group of primarily men to animalize/demonize another, given the ways white guys projected their sexual hangups onto black guys in this country to justify lynching them, but the above axiom still obtains.
