I'm finally figuring out that the frame of reference a lot of people "on our side" have in understanding politics in this country is determined by the people "not on our side."

They see the issues within the boundaries of a center-right vs. far right worldview promoted through mainstream television. Have no clue there's a viable alternative from the center-left because it's either been demonized or completely ignored by the "debate" on TV.

So when Obama gets up and mouths a bunch of center-right platitudes, he seems to be the alternative to the far right that we're looking for. He's still reinforcing the agenda of the wealthy, corporate, and even rightwing power structure in this country, however.
