Kids know when we're reading them or showing them fairy tales they are not real. We all knew those little books we read were fiction and Hansel and Gretel didn't really exist. No one tried to make us believe in a real witch who wanted to cook them.

Oh, and I think one of the lessons from the Wizard of Oz was actually exposing the lie of the "Wizard." Remember the man behind the curtain? Seems to be a metaphor to me but you can draw your own conclusions.

I think I would have had just as much fun anticipating the Christmas gifts whether or not I thought some fake jolly old man was delivering them vs knowing my parents were putting them under the tree. I never seemed to need a "birthday fairy" to get me excited about my birthday.
