137. I had an enforced "mutual ignore" put in place between myself and a very popular poster on DU; that
poster is now 'stoned. Also had another very popular poster around here on ignore after repeated stalking issues: she had the audacity to tell me I wasn't allowed to link back to my own post because it was posted in a thread she had started, because every single reply in an OP she'd authored she considered her "content." She's banned, too.

My few other ignores have come from receiving very nasty PM's from posters upset with some opinion of mine posted out on the boards, and they were almost uniformly nonstop venom and personal attacks. When you report such a PM to the admins, they prompt you to put the offender on ignore at that time (you're not required too, but it is highly suggested), and I have always done so.

So that's about the extent of my use of the *ignore* system. It has its rare applications, IMHO, but I try to limit it to those who have actually sent me private messages brimming with venom. An enforced "mutual ignore" cannot be gotten around, of course, and for good reasons.

As a rule, you're going to find that the more "popular" a poster feels they are on DU - how large their fan club is - the more they feel the rules do not apply to them. There is a low-grade version of this always churning on DU, and, I suspect, pretty much every discussion board.

I'd never say "never" about *ignore*, though, contrary to some of the bad advice you've been given in this thread. It is a useful tool in some limited circumstances.
