If they know you are hurting them because of their political or religious beliefs, then that takes the mystery and sting, and some of the hurt, out of it. But if they don't know or understand why you hurt them, that makes it hurt more. So dig in deep. With religious types use "God will punish you for ____ (whatever they said or did)." "God will make/give you (some affliction or tragedy that you know has happened to them) for ____ (something they did)." That kind of stuff. Now move in for the kill. "Family time" is the best possible opportunity.
