69. Even those positions benefit from unions
If a union negotiates a certain benefit, such as say double time on holidays, volunteers taken first, or whatever, even non-covered positions quite often benefit because management will usually extend those benefits to non-covered positions. Otherwise employees have fewer incentives to move into those positions.

Likewise even other non-unionized industries in the area quite often benefit because other employers have to compete for employees with union shops and union pay and benefits. That's why areas with strong union presence typically have better pay and benefits across the board while 'right to work' states typically have the lowest pay and benefits.
