It all started with very small changes that grew over time, where "left wing" people and concepts were criticized, marginalized, then demonized. The Christian churches began to incorporate bigotry and hatred into their doctrine (the Nazis were Christians, as many seem to forget.) And the right wing certainly does subscribe to the kind of rabid Nationalism that characterized Nazi Germany. Those who criticize this OP by saying "Read you history" need to do so themselves.
