32. There was once a big difference between our Crackers and
southerners from Alabama, Georgia etc.

Anything North of Tallahassee is up north. But our City staffers can now come from Georgia, Virginia, etc. and frankly, our crackers are now dogs without teeth who earn their living by being very obedient. You sometimes see the locals angry when a City Commission tries to find a City Manager from out of the area because they want to see local people rewarded for their loyalty. So they put pressure on the Commission to hire from within to reward these sad, obedient natives whose greatest quality is that they're underachievers.

And that is why Florida is such a FAIL state. Community leaders, especially Commissioners and City Attorneys, need either unethical staffers or underachievers who won't challenge them.

I also see strong influences from Tennessee and Pennsylvania. Not in a good way.

And yes, I transcribe local government tapes and the range of southern accents is incredible. If someone could refer me to some site where I can learn to identify the regions it would be helpful.
