I understand, but that doesn't forgive them. Unfortunately, this sort of thing doesn't get in the way of a Senator's rise within the ranks to a position of power that rivals the Majority Leader. Look at Max Baucus - he's done more damage to the Democrats during the last 2 years than any other single politician in either party.
