51. Oh, plez. Are you guys REALLY going to have an "I'm more oppressed than you" argument?
That's silly.

BOTH were oppressed. I imagine that some women were more oppressed than blacks, and some black men were more oppressed than white women, depending on who they were, where they lived, the circumstances, etc. It is also somewhat subjective.

But there is something I think we all can agree on: the most oppressed of any was the black woman (and if she was middle aged and overweight....forget it, sister...you didn't even exist).

Many black men are unaware of the history of oppression against women in the U.S. (and the world). It was never legal to kill a black man, as far as I know (we're talking post-slavery). A white man may have gotten off, or not charged. But it was never written into law. It was, however, written into law that a husband could legally kill his wife under certain conditions.

Married women (of either race) in many parts of the country could not inherit property, or even own property until, I think, the 20th century. Free black men could.

There is a list of rights denied women for years longer than those rights were denied black men. But most men aren't aware of that history.

Still, that's not to take away from the awful oppression of black men. Black women got hit doubly hard with oppression. So there's plenty of oppression for all of us.
