I really disagree with mot of your list. Howard Dean can do a wonderful job. I wished that Kerry had picked Hart as VP, which could have emphasized Kerry's own anti-terrorism credentials. Of the others, Smiley is likely more valuable as an independent journalist. Bob Kerrey has always been a lose cannon. He was awful as a Kerry surrogate, for whom he clearly had deep respect and friendship. He was beyond awful as a surrogate for HRC - speaking of modrassahs. Bill Bradley was an incredible Senator, but his strength was not campaigning. You also are picking many people who speak to the core of our base. They should be out there, but you need people who can reach the people in the middle.

I have also seen Chris Van Hollen, who can be excellent - as he was this morning explaining the small business tax cuts paid for by getting rid of the tax loophole that rewards companies that sent jobs overseas. I also think that Dick Durbin, John Kerry and Debbie Wasserman Schultz have all been excellent in earlier campaigns. Though for most Democrats, it wouldn't be fun, Kerry was outstanding even in Fox appearances as an Obama advocate.
