Advertisers do this because they know somethings play better in one area over another. I have seen one of these bits and see nothing of the marital drama that is obvious to you. But it sounds like a 'good button to press' from an advertisers point of view.

A few years ago, I saw an equally disturbing technique selling McD's 'burgers. I ranted and raved for a while but when I looked around, I realized that it was everywhere. So I learned to shut them all out.
