Obama has been pushing additional free trade agreements with Colombia, Panama and South Korea. More about that after the election, you can be sure. Therefore, with no reasonable alternative for us the voters, regulation as you have described it will be a thing of the past.

I know proponents say we can make regulation part of free trade agreements, but that's just a bad joke. Enforcement of provisions in other countries, such as child labor prohibition, is an exercise in chasing your tail that is soon forgotten after the neoliberals get their way.
