80. We are NOT playing a game of semantics.
Civil Unions are not equal to marriage. There are about 1200 legal rights that marriage confers. In order to make civil unions equivalent we would have to change all those laws to include civil unions.

Can I vote on whether you can marry? Would you think it fair if we all had an opportunity to say that you were less than the rest of us and therefore not deserving of marrying the person you love?

Marriage has deep spiritual meaning for me too, what is your point? No one will force any religious institution to marry anyone it doesn't want to marry. There are many religious organizations that are more than willing to marry gay people but are not allowed to because of state law. Does the desire of the Catholic faith to keep gay people from marrying trump the Episcopal faith which wants to be able to marry its' gay parishioners?

The opinion was based on the Constitution, not one man trumping the will of the people. I suggest you read it.
