In what is a two-party system, you make your choice. Not every Democrat and Republican supports every part of the set of values generally held by their party. That's an impossibility. Given the almost absolute certainty that a Democrat or a Republican will win in every important election, the choice seems clear to me.

I vote for Democrats. At least I know they will agree with my values some of the time. I know that the Republican will not.

It all depends on the political leanings of the individual states and districts. In many places, a Democrat who held every value I hold could never win an election to any public office. I'll take a partial agreement rather than complete disagreement every time.
