I did a paper in college on a theoretical oil spill in the Chesapeake Bay and while microorganisms CAN eat the oil, they are not capable of making the amounts of oil put out in the gulf so quickly totally disappear. We've never ever seen such a large amount of oil put into this type of ecosystem so we don't REALLY know how everything is going to react. Sounds like there is some environmental interaction going on that we don't understand and when you get unexpected results thats not necessarily a good thing. As a biologist I've seen many many things happen in real life that were different from what was predicted and theorized...My instincts as a biologist tells me something is happening thats not particularly good....And I'm not a gloom and doomer. Contradictory data can indicate really bad stuff.
