Katrina was a cluster, but one without some greedy corporation mucking it up.
Yeah, I wouldn't think its comparable. Another thought is that its more hopeless (making people more depressed). The nation is also in a worse state, so people may perceive events as darker and more screwed up than when economy was not imploded
