that's why entrenched power spent the last 30 years pouring billions into consolidation of media, into establishment of right wing think tanks, into ensuring that 9 of every 10 hours of talk radio is conservative, into lobbying for deregulation of media and and corporations generally, into coddling the religious right, into derision of academics and science and knowledge, into destroying the quality of public discourse, and into fighting middle class power.

Corporations made it happen, politicians made it happen and, frankly, we let it happen. Americans don't march in streets by the millions or go on strike like some Europeans do. We allow ourselves to be polarized into camps and groups. We allow ourselves to be distracted. We are easily divided and manipulated.

I agree with GreenArrow in above post. Media is one of many tools used by those who wish to concentrate power and money into the hands of fewer and fewer. I agree with you re Rachel and that we are stupified as a nation.
