this was almost the anthem of the American Left in the 1940s and 1950s. By the 1960s it lost all its revolutionary force...

The same goes for many other things.

That youth culture that rejected the establishment was pretty much absorbed by the establishment. This is one reason we are in the mess we are. The don't trust nobody over thirty became a marketing slogan...

And by the 1980s that generation was fully co opted.

No, this is not the fault of that generation. This pretty much has been the course of US History... but this is why just saying we had a great thing that was lost is superficial. Mark my words the counter culture will be cooped again. This is the nature of the ersatz capitalism and democracy we have. And until people wake up to this reality.

Yes, even the Great Peter Seeger was co opted... and it is time that people wake the fuck up. Fascism was not a day in the life of the US... it's been moving this way for a long time, at least 25 years. And part of this are the baubles we consume to "be happy."

That will just get worst now, as the race to keep with the Johnses is increasing. The good news is that the current crisis is changing this mentality, but this is the time to create that consciousness. This is the moment, but it is fleeting.

I have come to realize, if elections were canceled tomorrow nobody would care... well a few of us old codgers might... the "good news" is that they do not need to remove the curtain from that wall YET.

But here is the point, while some folks are still stuck in the same old, same old talking points, they HAVE moved on... to a new way of doing things.

Pay attention... and realize that your screams about what we do everywhere else in the world matter little at this point. Things are moving, and moving fast... and moving fast away from the old paradigms... all I can say is they are adapting to the pressures on the ground. But if you want real change, we have to start HERE...

Oh and are we in fascism yet? Are you going to wake finally? I know folks in the US don't understand what these words mean... that is on purpose... so stop using the words and 'splain the damn terms... because the work starts at the most basic of levels. People know they're getting screwed, but calling this fascism ain't gonna work... and you, none of you, is a commie either, but they will call you that way anyway.

That is by the way my frustration talking, and if this is rambling... well there is a reason for that... hard to put into words the anger as I see people stuck in paradigms will those who control this game have moved on... leaving all of you well, so behind the power curve it is not even funny. I finally understand why some people outside the US point and laugh at our "left." Now I fully get it.
