I counted at least three missed pitches in the first several seconds. I couldn't finish watching his performance because he was so off-pitch; that's something close to physical auditory pain to me. Having perfect pitch helps me in knowing where the notes are supposed to be, but it was like he wasn't even trying to hit the notes at all, just sliding all over the scale with rubber bands, duct tape, and hope.

I have played piano, oboe, tuned and untuned percussion, and performed both as a solo vocalist and in groups. In the past, I've performed in front of tens of thousands of people. I could sing better than this guy when I was in high school.

From a purely technical standpoint, that performance was a fail. It's hard for me to believe he even made it to the finals.
