Hardcore social conservatism

I believe that hardcore social conservatism is responsible for a great deal of the problems we have in the world today. I'm not a fan of hardcore economic/anti-government conservatism either, but there is something inherently evil about social conservatism and the effect it has had on peoples' lives.

International terrorism. Groups like the Taliban and Al Quaeda are about as socially conservative as you can get!

The War on Drugs: Elderly women shot by police who happened to knock down the wrong door. Lives ruined by excessive mandatory minimum sentences. Patients handcuffed to their beds for taking medicine that their doctors had prescribed to them. Hardcore social conservatism.

The treatment of LGBT people. Heroic Veterans kicked out of the military for no other reason than their sexual orientation. People being arrested for having consensual sex. Religious groups preaching hatred against them. Well-funded political movements to try to make it easier to fire them. Well-funded political movements to keep them from getting married like everybody else has the right to. Radical social conservatism.

Vice/sex laws: Harmless sex toys being banned. People put in prison for simply making a XXX movie that was dirtier than some of the others. Sodomy laws. Prostitutes being abused by pimps, condoms in the streets, and STDs being spread rather than prostitutes being safe and tested regularly in a legal brothel. Hardcore social conservatism at work.

Theocracy. People who wish to force others to live according to their personal religious beliefs. Taking away freedom from people in the name of religion. The religious right is the epitome of hardcore social conservatism.

There are plenty of other examples, but it's pretty clear to me that hardcore social conservatism needs to be stopped in order for us to have the best country possible. It divides people. It stands in the way of progress. The far right uses it to manipulate people into voting against their own self interests. While there are quite a few issues I don't agree with Libertarians on, I am glad that they are around. They too fight against social conservatism. At the same time, they take votes away from the Republicans. I would like to see the hardcore social conservatives relegated to very small third-party status or with no influence whatsoever.

If somebody is personally socially conservative, I have no problem with that. If a person wants to live a conservative life at home, at church and in their personal life, that is his or her perrogative. However, that person has no business imposing his or her will on the rest of us. We should have the right to live how we choose to live. We wouldn't force a social conservative to have an abortion, marry the same sex, smoke a joint, watch a XXX movie, etc. Why should the idea of social conservatives imposing their peronal morality on the rest of us even be considered valid?
