45. Many nurses leave the field
It is a negative feedback loop. Nursing can be very stressful and nasty, which drives people to leave the field. As people leave and there is a labor shortage the work becomes even more stressful. Part of the reason there is a nursing shortage is that it can be a very hard job.

I read there are something like 500,000 people in America who are qualified as nurses (experienced LPNs, RNs) who have chosen to leave the medical field and work in different areas other than healthcare.

So if the woman left the field because she hated it, thats not the same as leaving because she didn't like it.
