Obama ought to take a lead on this. Because of his campaign promises, because the Republicans might try to steal this issue and this portion of the "Democratic Base" if he doesn't (am I the only one that suspects that Cheney and Megan McCain, and perhaps others, might be willing to listen where "Blue Dogs" haven't the nerve to even consider?), because it's the right thing to do... and because he can.

There is no argument for not at least taking the stop gap measure of halting investigations/dismissals pending Congressional re-addressing of DADT (10 USC 654, as struggle4Progress has led me to memorize the legal code in our "discussions"). No compelling argument, anyway... except fear of political fallout with the "center"... which I think ought to be measured by Democratic politicians at this point against political fallout from the "left". Which "voter bloc" do they really want to jeopardize here?
