4. Michigan has been f**ked for a long time now
but its really getting worse. 2 restaurants in my town, which have been here for yrs, are gone for good. I spoke with a local businessman today and he said "In all my yrs here, I have NEVER seen it this bad". he says no one is buying.
The jobs here are tourist related, and they are low paying. But the tourists people counted on are usually from Michigan, Detroit, Lansing, etc. and Chicago.
With no wages and no jobs, the first thing that will go will be discretionary spending.
My friend here, who literally makes her living as a masseuse at a spa here, says she has NO customers. usually she has 2-3 a week in the winter. None.
as for my friend, she is going blind, and counts on that discretionary spending for her livelihood.
I dont know how 2009 will play out. I have a feeling its going to knock out this town.
