it's not about doing things for progressives, it's about implementing the kind of policies that progressives want. Presumably we want those things, not because they are gonna personally benefit us, but because they benefit America or the world.

I don't really care if he is trying to unite. It's when he 'unites' the same way Bush does or Pelosi does - by doing things their way. Sure, let's compromise with the Republicans, just like Pelosi. First, we give away the house, the car, and ten million dollars and Republicans give something in return, something like a coupon for $5 off a $200 purchase at the nearest Circuit City. That's the kind of fair trade and compromise we have gotten in the last 8 years and it seems to be the road we are going down. First, they feed the fat cats, and then if there are any crumbs left over for working people, they will be allowed to trickle down.
